Evidence & Evaluation

Evidence

The presence, quality and specificity of the available evidence and prompts. Considers:

  • if there is research evidence of the effectiveness of this specific technology in a similar rehabilitation setting and population
  • the quality and strength of the available evidence (you can use critical appraisal tools to help you decide – for example, https://casp-uk.net/casp-tools-checklists/)
  • any underpinning theories that support the effectiveness of the technological intervention in the intended rehabilitation setting and population
  • the strength and quality of evidence underpinning other similar technologies in a similar rehabilitation setting and population

“It produces outcomes we want; it appeals to the client group we deal with and the therapists seem to like it as well”

– Service Manager

Evaluation

Rigorous measurement of the key outcomes that can be used to judge the success of the implementation process and the effectiveness of the technology.

Considers:

  • identification and collection of the key outcomes (data) in the implementation setting that shows the rehabilitation technology is benefitting the intended population and/or service as planned
  • identification and collection of data to capture any unintended consequences (good or bad) of the rehabilitation technology when used in the intended population and/or services
  • identification and collection of data to capture the success of the implementation process and promote learning for future implementation efforts (link to Implementation evaluation tool )

“There needs to be good data to show that it’s it works for the patient and….the clinician”
